Every website needs an about page, this is ours.
What?
What you’re looking at is a blog metadata search engine.
Which, sure, also looks at the content of the blog, but is more focused on the metadata of the blog and its posts such as:
- Its author(s)
- When something was posted
- The language it is written in
- And other features being added
That’s something completely different from a meta- search engine, which simply aggregates search results from different search engines.
The entire point of this search engine is to return control to the user, by letting you drill down to the search results you want.
Many features are currently still being developed, both on the indexing side as the search side. During these early phases, focus is mostly on english language content. Other European languages will be added later. Some features have already been developed, but are not actively being indexed or exposed to the website, so check back later for more changes.
Going Slow
This is a slow-moving project, for reasons. One of those is developer time, another is your time. We firmly believe there is no benefit to real-time indexing everything, everywhere, at the same time. Nor is there any reason that all of these websites should have their own newsletter or podcast spamming your mailbox. We consider internet content being pushed to you as harmful, RSS readers were invented for a reason and there is a reason that they poll rather then receive.
Considering all this, here’s the deal:
- We scrape (parts of) the internet daily
- We post-process it on weekends
- Sunday night you get a fresh index with updated search software, if there is anything to show
That way you can avoid work check up with your favorite blogs starting monday and not have FOMO in the weekends and spend time with your family or call your parents.
Data
Finally, there is the matter of your data and privacy. While our privacy policy and terms of service are elsewhere, here is the gist:
- We use GoatCounter to track usage statistics, this is a GDPR-Proof solution that doesn’t track you around or sells your data.
- Our CDN holds logs for a maximum of 72 hours for technical troubleshooting, after which they are deleted.
- Our webserver logs go to > /dev/null , but if you’re doing naughty stuff you end up on our naughty list and access is denied on a firewall level.
- Servers cost money, and lots of servers cost lots of money, which is why we run ads and your data may be processed by advertising partners. Where available we’ve turned off re-targeting or the usage of your data for profiling.
- If you have a more privacy-respecting alternative, we would like to get in touch!
